Hardened polystyrene provides very good isolation and at the same time hives made of it
are also lightweight which is very important for mobile apiaries. The bee families overwinter
in them and develop really well. It is always important to ensure good ventilation. For this
purpose, in the elements of the hive, such as the body, the roof or the den bottom , holes
are made in the factory, which are secured with ventilation plugs with a sieve ( to prevent
pests getting into the hive) or closed with plugs (i.e. styrofoam plugs).
Proper ventilation is also provided by a plastic hygienic den bottom attached to this hive
configuration model. In addition, it allows the control of varroa infestation of bee colonies,
and is resistant to weather conditions and gnawing. Ease of cleaning and disinfection can be
mentioned as another advantage of the hygienic bottom.
